I've always been a skeptic when it comes to new products. For whatever reason, it always seems like when a company has to try so hard to sell something, there is a reason behind it. After it, if it is so great, why do you need to convince people to buy it?
But with winter right around the corner, and cold weather on our mind, here are a few things that I found, make a huge difference.
Door Sweeps. I know this doesn't like a major deal, but it's pretty crazy how much adding one has helped! We use our basement a lot, as a playroom and laundry room and general sitting room. However our basement door doesn't sit perfectly and there is a small, hard to see, but easily felt gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. During the rainy or snowy months, we often wake up in the morning to find a small puddle in the laundry room. Plus there is constantly a cold draft of air coming in from the bottom of the door, which besides for being uncomfortable, most likely causes my heating bill to be higher then it needs to be.
It took me a long time to finally purchase one, probably a few years more then I should have waited. One day a friend mentioned that he had gotten one from KS Hardware and I finally decided to give it a try as well.
What an incredible almost immediate surprise! After we added this double bubble door sweep, the basement felt amazing and so much more habitable! Not just a bit more pleasant, but it felt like a new space without the annoying water and cold air draft that always made it a chore to be in the basement.
We also got two more for the main floor and while not as dramatic, the change in the rooms has been noticeable. I find that I don't have to change the thermostat as much as before, and the room stays warmer longer.
As a side note, while I was researching different ideas, here are the top 5 reasons why people recommend using a door sweep such as this Double Bubble Door Sweep by KS Hardware.
-
Energy Efficiency: One of the primary benefits of weatherstripping is its ability to improve energy efficiency. By sealing the gaps around your doors, weatherstripping prevents drafts and heat loss, keeping your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. This can lead to lower energy consumption and reduced utility bills, ultimately saving you money.
-
Enhanced Comfort: No one likes feeling a cold draft on a winter day or the warmth escaping during the scorching summer months. Weatherstripping creates a barrier between your indoor space and the outside elements, ensuring a more comfortable and consistent temperature inside your home. You'll be able to enjoy a cozier living environment year-round.
-
Noise Reduction: Weatherstripping doesn't just keep out air and moisture; it can also help reduce noise from the outside world. Whether it's traffic, construction, or noisy neighbors, sealing gaps with weatherstripping can make your home a quieter, more peaceful place to live.
-
Improved Indoor Air Quality: Weatherstripping can also help keep pollutants and allergens from entering your home. A well-sealed door prevents dust, pollen, and other outdoor contaminants from infiltrating your living space. This is especially important for individuals with allergies or respiratory issues, as it helps maintain better indoor air quality.
-
Extended Lifespan of Doors and Home: Properly installed weatherstripping can protect your doors and the structural integrity of your home. By preventing moisture from seeping into your walls and floors, you can reduce the risk of rot and mold growth, which can lead to costly repairs. Weatherstripping also helps preserve the finish and functionality of your doors, ensuring they last longer and require less maintenance.
Hope you enjoyed, and if you haven't added a door sweep yet, don't wait! Get it before the cold season sets in!
